The Freestone County Go Texan is a nonprofit organization; operating under the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Our purpose is to provide scholarships for all the schools in the county, Fairfield, Teague and Wortham.

The organization was formed in 1985. It has had its ups and downs; the current board has had success that this organization hasn’t seen before. We are all so very proud of how far we have come. In 2022 we were fortunate enough to award $23,000.00 in scholarships alone. Recently we have been able to do more than just scholarships, such as donating to other local nonprofits, lend a helping hand to a family in need, and adding on money to the seniors that participated in our local livestock sale. Our biggest change was being able to host our first annual BBQ Cook-Off, and it was a major success. A success we would not have had without the support of local businesses and our FREECO family. 

HLSR has high standards and requirements we must meet, to give one of “our” local kids a chance at the HLSR $20,000.00 scholarship. We all work very hard to make sure we give the Freestone County youth as much as we can and open every door possible for them. Freestone County Go Texan has big plans for the years to come. We participate in every local event, hosting cornhole, horseshoe and washer tournaments, and we hope to be given the opportunity to do even more.
